Wines of Argentina in the Asian market
In 2015, Argentina exported $3,664,172 to Taiwan and $1,011,222m to Vietnam, an increase of 20% over the previous year.
Wines of Argentina, the institution responsible for promoting the brand “Vino Argentino" in the world, participated in the seventh edition of the fair Vinexpo in Hong Kong, the most importantwine and spirits event in Asia-Pacific. The fair was attended by more than 50 Argentine wineries from Salta, San Juan, La Rioja, San Rafael, Mendoza, Neuquén and Rio Negro exhibiting more than 200 of their best wines.
"The Asian continent accounts for 11% of world wine consumption and the growth outlook for the next five years is five times higher than in the rest of the world. This year there was a large turnout of professionals including importers, distributors and sommeliers in the region“ said Mario Giordano, Manager of Wines of Argentina.
As part of the fair, Wines of Argentina held business meetings in the cities of Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Taipei (Taiwan), where more than 20 Argentine wineries were able to showcase their wines and attract new importers. Notably, in 2015, Argentina exported $3,664,172 to Taiwan and$1,011,222m to Vietnam, representing an increase of 20% over the previous year.
In Vietnam, with 140 attendees, the event focused on wineries seeking importer representation. As for Taiwan which is a more developed market, it was the first time an event for consumers was conducted and included a traditional Argentine barbecue, plus music and tango. Of the 24 participating wineries, half attended with their importer. Each had 15 minutes to meet importers and give them an additional chance to seize a business opportunity.
These events are an integral part of our annual strategy in Asia, as they provide the wineries with a platform to visit major markets, promote their brands and meet face-to-face with the most important trade figures - including importers, buyers retail or the press. It is also often the starting point for new business, while at the same time strengthening the image of Argentina for trade and consumers," explained Andrew Maidment, Europe and Asia Manager.
Also during Vinexpo Hong Kong, Wines of Argentina introduced the first education program of Vino Argentino in Hong Kong, in conjunction with the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education of the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK LiPACE). The aim of the 30-hour program is to provide a level of detail unprecedented in the area of local training on wine issues and provide students with knowledge about the culture and geography of Argentina, as well as its styles of wine and key issues related to the world of business.
