Asia Tour 2016: Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong

Once again Wines of Argentina is present in the Asian market.

During Vinexpo Hong Kong which will be held between the 24-26 May, Wines of Argentina has organised a series of activities in Vietnam and Taiwan to further position the brand Vino Argentino in Asia.

On May 17 in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) and May 19 in Taiwan (Taipei) a round of business meetings will be held, followed by a trade tasting in which 20 Argentine wineries will be able to show their wines to importers.

Why these cities:

Vietnam remains one of the countries with the fastest growing and most open market in the region. GDP grew by 6% in 2014 to $190b.

Wine imports in Vietnam have also increased steadily over the past 5 years, reaching $ 540 million in 2013 (compared to $472m in 2012). While Argentine exports grew by 20% and 6% in value in 2015 vs 2014.

As tourism in Vietnam continues to flourish, the expansion of 5-star hotels has emerged as a new outlet for wine. In addition, the on-trade channel represents more than 70% of the total wine market.

In Taiwan, French wine represents 31% in volume, followed by Spanish (17%), Chilean (15%), Australian (8.5%), American (8.3%), Italian (8%) and Argentinian (4 %).

Wine consumption in Taiwan is still low, although it is more developed than in mainland China with an average consumption of 0.7 litres per person per year. Spain is the fastest growing country at the moment due to its price competitiveness. However, there is significant space for Argentine wine to grow.

Red wine represents 72% of the market, White 19%, Sparkling 7% and Rosé 2%.

Most sales in Taiwan are made in shops more than in the on-trade channels where wine is sold in Western restaurants and represents 4% volume and 9% of market value.

Vinexpo Hong Kong

"VINEXPO HONG KONG" ( is the most important wines and spirits event in the Asia-Pacific region. Asia accounts for 11% of world wine consumption and the growth outlook for the next five years is five times higher than in the rest of the world.

This year is the 7th edition of the fair and it is expected to have a large turnout of professionals, approximately 17,000, including importers, distributors and sommeliers from the region.

During Vinexpo Hong Kong (May 24 to 26), 50 Argentine wineries will show more than 17,000 attendees the best that Argentina has to offer. Guests will be able to taste and discover the particularities of each of the wine regions.
