The President of Wines of Argentina, Susana Balbo, has been chosen as "Woman of the Year" by the British magazine The Drinks Business

Susana Balbo, winemaker, founder of the winery Dominio del Plata and current President of Wines of Argentina, has been named "Woman of the Year" by the British magazine The Drinks Business. This award recognises her career as well as her leadership, commitment and contribution to the wine industry.

The award ceremony was held on May 19 as part of the "London Wine Fair 2015" at Olympia in London, and was attended by over 50 people within the spirits industry.

"Susana defied social conventions of the time and decided to pursue a career in the wine industry. In 1981 she received her degree in oenology, becoming the first female winemaker in Argentina. Her passion for her work and vocation was what prompted her to fulfil her dream of having a winery and to produce and sell wines under her own name.

For more than 30 years she has served as a national and international consultant to prestigious wineries, as has also been an influential leader in the Argentine wine industry, being chosen by her peers as President of WOFA three times, from 2006 to 2010 and 2014, thanks to her work ethic, holistic vision and dedication to success and positioning of Argentine wines in the world.

Susana says: "This award has been the coronation of hard work and creativity in the service of my passion, which is to make wine. In addition it comes at a very special moment in my life as I am about to have my first grandchild, what more could I ask for? I want to thank those who have accompanied me and have made this award possible, especially my children and my team at Dominio del Plata “.

The DB awards recognise the best professionals in the beverage industry at an international level. In this 12th edition a panel of judges and professionals established four categories "Personality Awards, Supply Chain Awards, Business Awards and Marketing Awards" to assess the career and achievements of both the nominees and the companies participating in the contest.
