More on Chapel Down’s Unique Argentine Malbec

Back in March, in preparation for the innaugral Malbec World Day, Wines of Argentina had a brainwave... Wouldn’t it be great to celebrate the global success of our signature grape variety by partnering with foreign wineries in order to produce a range Argentina Malbec’s with an international twist.

But who to work with in the UK? The decision was simple - the number 1 winery Chapel Down.

After a couple of phone calls to Chapel Down’s pioneering CEO, Frazer Thompson, a deal was struck and 2 of their winemaking team we on a flight to Mendoza to witness the harvest of their very own Malbec grapes first hand.

The English winemakers then spent an intensive week working with their Argentine counterparts in order to see just what what it takes to make a world class Malbec beofre being joined on the journey home by 3 tons of carefully harvested and meticulously packed Malbec grapes.

Currently maturing in barrel, the resulting wine looks set to deliver exactly what was hoped for - a real Argentine Malbec but from a uniquely British perspective.

We are now offering the chance for 2 very lucky Facebook fans to win an all expenses paid trip to Chapel Down’s winery in Kent to see (and taste) first hand what the project was all about. The trip will include a fantastic lunch at Chapel Down’s award winning restaurant overlooking the vines.
