Malbec World Day Sao Paulo
The celebration of Malbec World Day – as it was baptized by Wines of Argentina – in Brazil took place at the Bar des Arts, in the Itaim district of São Paulo.
This special date was established this year in Mendoza and celebrated in several spots around the world: London, New York, Mendoza and São Paulo, as well as in other cities where Argentine Malbecs are highly appreciated.
In São Paulo, the event offered guests the opportunity to taste more than 40 premium Malbec wines, pre-selected by six renowned wine critics from Brazil: Suzana Barelli, editor of the Menu magazine; Ricardo Castilho, editor of the Prazeres da Mesa magazine; Arthur Azevedo and Mario Telles Junior, editors of the Wine Style magazine and directors of the Brazilian Sommelier Association (ABS-SP); José Maria Santana, critic for the Gosto magazine; and Guilherme Correa, twice champion sommelier for Brazil and Latin America, who is presently working for Decanter Imports.
The challenge for the specialists was to select a series of Malbec wines which they believe to be widely represented in the market.
The guests had the exceptional chance to discuss and learn about those wines, get to know the selection criteria used by the experts and taste more than 40 excellent wines.
The soiree was attended by importers, guests, customers and wine journalists.
April 17, 2011 was the date chosen for the celebrations that will become a must within the wine agenda worldwide. The cities of New York, London, São Paulo and Mendoza have been chosen to host the events organized to honor the wine that has lately experienced the greatest international growth. The Big Apple, representing the North American market (the main export market for Argentine wines) and the United Kingdom stand as a symbol of the historical expansion of this variety in the European context. Mendoza, in turn, was chosen for being Argentina’s wine capital and the birthplace of Malbec.
And Brazil, as one of the four most important export markets for Argentine wine, could not be left out. For this reason, Wines of Argentina scheduled this event on April 18 to continue with the celebrations that began on the previous day in the cities formerly mentioned.
The following wines participated in the event: Magdalena Toso 2006, Sophenia Synthesis Malbec 2008, Ruta 15 KM 29 Malbec 2004, Judas Malbec 2006, Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2007, Zuccardi Q Malbec, Carinae Prestige Malbec, Catena Alta Malbec Argentino, Enrique Foster Firmado, Mauricio Lorca Finca Los Angeles, Cadus Malbec, Rutini Antologia XXI, Lindaflor Malbec 2006, Bodega del Fin del Mundo Special Blend Reserva, Trapiche Malbec Single Vineyard, Piedra Negra Bodega François Lurton, Primus Malbec Salentein, Famiglia Bianchi Malbec, Mendel Malbec, Alto Las Hormigas Reserva Malbec, Alpha Crux Malbec Ortega Fournier, Achaval Ferrer Finca Altamira, Don Miguel Escorihuela Gascón, Nosotros Susana Balbo, Humberto Canale Gran Reserva, Punta Final Reserva, Viña Cobos Bramare Malbec, Noemia J.
