After reviewing over 600 Argentinean wines since last December – more than 50% of them Malbec or Malbec based blends – James Molesworth, Wines Spectator’s lead taster on wines of Argentina, proclaims that ‘all the foundations are in place’ for Argentina’s success in the US wine market.
The wine category had a solid September with several shining lights. French imports had one of the best months in a long time and wines priced $20 and above posted strong growth, second only to box wines. Domestics are still outpacing imports with especially solid results coming from California, but Argentina continues to break the mold each month.

The presence of musician Gustavo Santaolalla and his band, Bajofondo, and of the ballet directed by Julio Bocca graced the annual wine tastings organized by Wines of Argentina in England and the United States.
This successful wine tasting, which gathered more than 300 people, took place during the official opening of the 2009 International Chicago Tango Fest.
Nora Z. Favelukes entered the wine trade in her native Argentina in 1984. Early professional credits include the post of Export Director at Bodegas Navarro Correas in Buenos Aires and, as of 1988, as New York-based East Coast Sales Manager for Vinos Argentinos. In the United States she has held the position of National Sales Manager for Billington Imports - was responsible for the introduction of Bodegas Catena and in 1995, she launched her own business: QW Wine Experts (Quantum Wines), a consulting firm devoted to the nationwide public relations, marketing and sales of imported fine wines. From October 1993 through June 1995, Favelukes held the position of President of the Wine Council of Argentina in the United States.
As of 1995, she holds the High Certificate on Wine Studies issued by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, London, England.
In 2006, she received the “Outstanding Industry Professional Award” by New York City College of Technology.
In 2007, she was inducted as a member of “Les Dames d’Escoffier” worldwide organization.
Today, she represents the Wines of Argentina account for the United States. In this capacity, she is in charge of building the brand image of the wines of Argentina through wine tasting events organized by Wines and by other entities; as a guest lecturer for other institutional and private organizations; by overseeing the advertising campaigns; by generating media and trade trips to Argentina and as the primary link with the press.
