Wines of Argentina receive Master Sommeliers for a journey of immersion and discovery of Vino Argentino

Experts of the international sommellerie will visit Mendoza, Salta and Buenos Aires between February 23 and March 1.

Buenos Aires, February 20, 2019. As guests of Wines of Argentina (WofA), the organisation responsible for the global promotion of Vino Argentino, 15 Master Sommeliers of different nationalities from the Court of Master Sommeliers (Europe & Americas) will begin an educational tour to deepen their knowledge of our viticulture. The implementation of this program has been possible thanks to the joint effort of wineries throughout the country; the support of the Argentine Agency for Investment and International Trade, the Ministry of Production, Labor and Sustainable Development of the Government of the Province of Salta , the Argentine Association of Sommeliers, as well as the sponsorship of TN Coopers, Corchos de Argentina and R Cristal.

These professionals, who hold the highest title of the International Sommellerie, will taste more than 300 wines in 12 seminars to induce the distinctive aspects of Argentine viticulture. The agenda of activities will begin in Mendoza with an introduction to our wine country, highlighting the role of Malbec as the flagship strain and axis of the transformations of the sector over the last two decades, ahead of celebrations for Malbec World Day on April 17.

The seminars will emphasise the regionalisation and diversity of terroirs and styles offered by Argentina. From Geographical Indications that make up the First Zone and the Uco Valley (Mendoza), through the varietal typicity according to terroir, to new seminars on Criollo grapes, the wines of San Juan and the Pre-Cordillera, and organic, biodynamic and natural wines.

There will be a wine fair involving a dozen small scale projects for smaller producers of Mendoza. The differential character and projection of their wines will show off the heterogeneity of the wine scene. TN Coopers, Corchos de Argentina, Label Solutions, Blue Sky and the Municipality of the Department of Junín will also join forces to make this meeting possible.

The tour will continue through the landscapes of Cafayate (Salta), where the MS will experience the magic of the Calchaquí Valleys through a seminar with a wine tasting from the North, culminating in a trip in Buenos Aires with a meeting about Patagonia and Atlantic vitiviniculture. All these activities will be accompanied by the best gastronomic and artistic experiences, reflecting the identity and cultural richness of our country.

With this latest series of events, WofA has invested in education and systematic work with global influencers to conquer their palates and transform them into ambassadors of Vino Argentino across the world.

"One of the most important axes of our strategy is our systematic work with opinion formers. As with the Masters of Wine trip in 2018, this year we will work with the Court of Master Sommeliers to position Argentine wine in the world. It is important to reach the prestigious places where these recognised professionals perform. An investment in knowledge is the way and this visit represents an opportunity for the wine industry as a whole, "says Alberto Arizu (h), President of Wines of Argentina.
