Winery: TERRAZAS DE LOS ANDES
Terrazas de los Andes is the pioneer high elevation producer of premium wines based in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. In the late 50's, LVMH subsidiary Moet & Chandon dispatched its chief winemaker, Renaud Poirier, to Latin America to investigate the potential of the region for producing world-class wines. Highly impressed wit the local conditions for winemaking, and the presence of unique high elevation vineyards, Moet & Chandon established in Lujan de Cuyo, province of Mendoza, its first subsidiary winery and vineyards outside France. Terrazas de los Andes leveraged its more than 50 years of experimentation with Mendoza microclimates, generated by tiered terraces at high altitudes, to build a core wine philosophy based on Argentina’s primary advantage in the world of winemaking: high-elevation grape cultivation. With an emphasis on maximizing fruit expression, varietals have been carefully matched to each vineyard altitude: Cabernet Sauvignon at 980 meters above sea level, Malbec at 1.067, Chardonnay at 1.200 meters and Torrontes at 1.800 meters. Terrazas de los Andes is the main land owner in Malbec Grand Cru, Vistalba, Mendoza.
