The start of the Cornucopia Wine Festival could not have been more promising for Argentine wines. A private tasting for sommeliers, buyers and the press was held at the Side Cut Restaurant of the Four Seasons Hotel in Whistler.

More than 25 sommeliers and trade and local press representatives from Whistler accepted Wines of Argentina’s invitation and participated in the presentation led by Barbara Philip MW and Iain Philip AIWS.

An extensive and detailed presentation accompanied the tasting of 18 wines – by different Argentine wine producers –, which included more than 10 different varieties, 1 sparkling and 3 blends from 5 winegrowing provinces and more than 8 subregions.

The Philips, with their sound professionalism and great passion for Argentine wine, praised the quality and diversity of our products. Iain Philip said to the audience that “all of us, as educators and members of the trade, are privileged witnesses and, to a certain extent, responsible for one of the biggest transformations that ever occurred in the Canadian wine market. Twenty years ago, Argentina was not present in our market, but today it’s one of the most vibrant players. It’s up to us to take it a step forward.”

Activities in Whistler will continue over the whole weekend and will include the seminar “Beyond Malbec” (Saturday, November 13) where 14 “Non-Malbecs” from all around the country will be presented to consumers.

Once the Cornucopia Wine Festival is over, Argentina will continue with its generic promotion activities in Vancouver and Calgary (November 15 and 16 respectively).
