The first social vineyard in the world
In 2010, with a view to promoting Argentine wines in their main markets (USA, Canada, England and Brazil) Wines of Argentina launched Wine Guru, the first social vineyard in the world. The aim was to reach new wine consumers, by engaging them in a fun, playful way with Argentine wine, its regions of origin and features.
With this application, users had the chance to grow plots of Malbec and Torrontés in different wine regions: the North, Cuyo and Patagonia. Once the grapes were ready, after receiving proper care, came the long-awaited for harvest, followed by the production and aging stages. As part of the process, users could do business with friends so that their winery earned more recognition, and eventually more money.
When the wine was ready, users had to personalize their label, choose a brand name and launch the product to the market. The more thorough the care the grapes had received, the more quality the wine had and the better it would sell.
At the same time, each virtual winemaker had access to a series of trivia questions that tested their knowledge. The more correct answers they gave and the better the performance of their vineyard, the more chances they had to become a true Wine Guru. The trivia winner was LINDA SUSNIK, who was awarded a visit to Argentina. She visited two winemaking regions of Argentina, Mendoza and Salta, between July 16 and 26, 2011.
