Mr. Luis Victor Chirino has been a Pioneer builder in San Juan Province and
has always been passionate about the viticulture tradition of the region. In
1990 he invests in land appropriate for the growth and cultivation of various
grape varieties and in two wineries where, using avant-gard technologies,
his wines and sparkling wines are made nowadays.
Don Luis’s interest in the wine industry was born in the 80’s when, even
before exploring into winemaking he bought the historic building known
as Antigua Bodega. The complex was re-opened in 1994 after extensive
This refurbishing work was mainly led by his wife, Azucena “Chiqui” Juarez de
Chirino who invited well-known local artists in order to define the Art Deco style
which reigns at present in the Bodega’s rooms.
Time and evolution brought his sons Luis Victor and Luis Alberto aboard
the Project. They currently cooperate in the development of new products,
institutional relations, logistics and local and International distribution. The
enterprise’s managing is carried out by all the family members together,
who are constantly spreading their passion for the land and its many virtues.
The family hopes therefore that people who sample their products and/or
visit this marvellous complex be seduced by its beauty and, their emotions
awakened by this unique and unforgettable experience.
CAUSE AND EFFECT
Antigua Bodega, originally known as “El Parque”, was one of the first
buildings erected in San Juan Province by using anti-seismic structures and
a simple though slylized architecture.
The forwarding and shipping plant used to be the province’s most important
with an elaboration capacity for 20,000 oak casks (5 million litres of wine)
which were sent away through the Argentino del Norte Railway straight from
the very plant within the winery. The winery had huge cold storage capacity
and the backing of 200 hectares of our own vineyards.
Bodega “El Parque” has been since 1918 a great example of progress and
managed to take its place in the market with the excellent quality of its
products well-known both in Argentina and abroad.
The Chirino family bought the premises at the end of the 1980’s and, in time,
the winery was transformed into an Enotourism and Cultural Complex.
Antigua Bodega is today visited by locals and foreigners who are amazed by
the marvels offered by the site comprising over 10,000 square meters.
